At the beginning we met to sing the music we loved, and our primary aim has not changed. We give regular concerts to share our enjoyment with others, and to ensure that we work to a standard. Soloists are drawn from within the choir.
We aim to perform a diverse selection of music. Our conductor's expertise in, and detailed knowledge of, choral music for chamber choirs has given us the opportunity to perform little-known or recently re-edited works such as Adrian Batten's 'Hear my prayer' and Samuel Wesley's Magnificat.
Because of our size (approximately 30 singers) we do not perform large-scale choral works, but concentrate on music written for smaller numbers. Bach, Byrd, Pergolesi, Victoria, Gabrieli and Monteverdi are all in our repertoire, as are Purcell, Mozart, Brahms, Bruckner, Gorecki and Stanford.
We also perform recently composed music such as Bob Chilcott's In the Heart of the World, and John Rutter's Requiem. Many of the choir recently attended a workshop held by Bob Chilcott at St Mary Oatlands and are looking forward to his next visit.
Our concert programmes are planned thematically. Our summer concerts are on a lighter theme than in the autumn and spring – you might hear Gershwin, Cole Porter or English folk songs in various settings.
