At the beginning we met to sing the music we loved, and our primary aim has not changed. We give regular concerts to share our enjoyment with others, and to ensure that we work to a standard.
Because of our size (approximately 25 singers) we do not perform large-scale choral works, but concentrate on music written for smaller numbers though we aim to perform a diverse range of music. Our Musical Director, Peter Stobart, has continued exploring the large selection of material for chamber choirs. He is committed to improving our vocal technique and our sight-reading so that we can enjoy new challenges and explore unusual music.
Our autumn and spring concerts
have included:
Fauré's Requiem & Cantique de Jean Racine
Brahm's Liebeslieder Walzen
Charpentier: Messe de Minuit
Vivaldi Magnificat
Purcell: Welcome to All the Pleasures
Herbert Howell: Hymn to St Cecilia
Tippett: 5 Negro Spirituals
Handel's Dixit Dominus
In the summer we perform lighter music and recently have performed:
Pergolesi: Magnificat
Elgar: various songs
Haydn's Little Organ Mass
19th Century part-songs, e.g. by Pearsall
Traditional folk songs
Modern "classics" such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and the odd comic song.
At Christmas we take part in a Charity Concert for Macmillan, where we have been joined by Heathside Chamber Choir and Ensemble.
Although we are named A Cappella Singers, we also sing works requiring accompaniment and have used organ, small period instrument groups, piano and harpsichord.
